In a village that has always known how to recognise exceptional craftsmen, Arte Milenario carries on the art of hatmaking — a trade as old as civilisation and as precise as painting. A stop for anyone looking for something handmade and singular to take away from Barbizon.
A plaque on the façade records that the painter François Federle (1939–2005) kept his gallery here: he settled in Barbizon in 1971 and opened a space devoted to painting at 39 Grande Rue. The adjoining premises, today Galerie 39, appear to have formed part of the same property.
