Bobo Club
1 Grande Rue, 77630 Barbizon
The place
An unlikely addition to a village best known for its 19th-century painters, the Bobo Club has become a fixture of local nightlife, drawing a crowd from across Seine-et-Marne. The name is a knowing wink: the village has more than a touch of bourgeois-bohème sensibility, and the club leans into it.
The club stands on the site of the old Hôtel de la Forêt, one of the great hotels of Barbizon before 1914. Its owner, Masson, had first been a painter. He gave the land for the little station of the tramway from Melun, whose terminus opened at his door, and it was at his hotel that the line's inaugural banquet was served in 1899.
