La Poste de Barbizon

20 Grande Rue, 77630 Barbizon

The place

The post office moved to 20 Grande Rue in 1947, and twenty years later, in 1967, it was voted the prettiest post office in France: a distinction that says as much about the building as about the village. The house was formerly the Villa Les Roses. It had belonged to Georges Krier, composer of La Valse brune and a former president of SACEM, the French society of music authors, composers and publishers. In Barbizon, even the post office has an artist's story.
