A gallery that has outlasted many of its contemporaries on the Grande Rue, Galaxie des Arts occupies a particular position in Barbizon's art scene — committed to contemporary work in a village that could easily lean entirely on its 19th-century reputation. Founded in 1988, it has shown painters and sculptors from France and beyond, maintaining the tradition of the village as a living place for art rather than a museum of it.
