The building
The building at no. 26 was the home and studio of Antoine-Louis Barye, the 19th-century sculptor celebrated for his animal bronzes. Barye used the Fontainebleau forest as a living menagerie, observing and sketching animals in motion before casting them in bronze. The current gallery occupies the same space where his clay and wax models once lined the shelves.
